This 6 week afterschool program provides educational opportunities for elementary and middle school students to experience hands-on learning about their local environment and varying ecosystems, understand conservation and develop a sense of stewardship through service and volunteerism. The LLP is a parnership between the Wenatchee School District, the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust, the WSU Chelan Extension Office, and the Cascade Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group.
During different days of the week students were taken to different sites to explore the natural environments that surround their community. CCFEG facilitated the days where students came out to the Horan Nature Center at the confluence of the Wenatchee and Columbia rivers. Students went on guided nature hikes where we identified local plant and animal species, participated in fish dissections, and observed aquatic macroinvertebrates through microscopes.
